BARBIE X OLYMPIC GAMES TOKYO 2020
Working on the Olympics had always been a dream of mine, so naturally, it ended up being the first time in Olympic history a Games was postponed. It made leading the brand design for the Barbie and Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 partnership all the more memorable.
I art directed the styling and photo shoot of the dolls and established the visual system for the partnership. This international product line highlights inclusivity and innovation, with dolls reflecting the five new sports added to the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo: softball, sport climbing, karate, skateboarding, and surfing. In collaboration with the International Olympic Committee, I translated their brand guidelines into a suite of global campaign assets that rolled out across major platforms and retailers, bringing a bit of Barbie’s Olympic spirit to screens and shelves.
The Barbie Icon I designed is also used on all the dolls, including their gold medals! To see the Barbie Icon project, please click here.
